![]() ![]() This song was amazing to me the moment I heard it, actually got emotional because I was going through exactly what he was talking about in a way, but then when I actually analysed the music and realized that the music follows what he's saying. Note, there's also a 1951 version that's shorter and more dramatic (b/u vox and timpani!) and it's pretty neat, too. I had to pick past a vinyl rip (crazy with IM distortion) but found this clean copy on YT - important, I thought, since the stereo strings and horns are really pretty gorgeous. 'Universal' (multi-store/stream) link: songlink | I'm a Fool to Want You by Frank Sinatra On the "Fool to Want You," Sinatra's reading is relatively straightforward, no finger snaps or thrown-in baby's, no swinger affectations, just Frankie opening up a vein of world-weary loneliness, surrounded by shimmering strings that eddy and flow around his occasionally just-slightly halting vocal phrases. His previous album had been relatively hard-swinging, but Where Are You? was mostly torch songs. Sinatra was uneven at times, but this is arguably from his greatest era. A song that was so well put together that it's hard for another artist to approach the subject matter and elevate it. What song do you feel was written almost to perfection.
